En nu zijn er op het CPH:DOX festival twee films die precies dat proberen te doen. De eerste heet "Age of the Mother" van de Noorse regisseuse Irene Kaltenborn. Zij is naar de bossen van Finland en de kust van Finnmark gereisd, op zoek naar sporen van een "parallelle geschiedenis". Geen helden, geen conflict. Gewoon het bos als een levend wezen, als een geheugen dat alles vasthoudt. Ze duikt in folklore, mythen, de Kalevala. Weet je, dat Finse epos waarin de wereld niet door strijd ontstaat maar door zang en geboorte. Haar film is stil, maar hij verandert hoe je naar dingen kijkt. En de grote vraag: wat doe je met muziek als er geen held is? Als het conflict niet in de plot zit maar in het botsen van wereldbeelden? Het dwingt je alle sjablonen los te laten en nieuwe talen te vinden. Zoals Le Guin het zwaard losliet en naar de tas greep. Misschien wordt de wereld een klein beetje minder strijdbaar als we zulke verhalen leren vertellen. Tenminste in de film.
